Centuries ago, faithful Japanese Catholics were forced into hiding. Many were martyred—beheaded for their belief in Christ. Their graves, buried in places like Nobuka, hold the memory of their sacrifice and witness to the Catholic faith.
Today, these sacred burial sites are being lost to time—eroded by landslides and buried under sand. Local Catholics are doing all they can to protect and honor these graves, but they need help. Without support, these relics of courage, faith, and heritage may vanish forever.
“If these graves disappear, even our World Heritage connection will be lost.”
